VISION STATEMENT

In March 2020, TheWrap and the Breakthrough Prize Foundation set out to find 6 visionary filmmakers with the ability to make engaging, original, accurate short films about a selection of Breakthrough Prize laureates.

The ‘Breakthrough Filmmakers Challenge’ accepted proposals that focused on the character of the laureate, an event in their lives, a particular theoretical/experimental breakthrough, or their impact on the world. These proposal treatments were evaluated by industry professionals, competing for one of six winning spots.

The six winners received a $5,000 cash prize and an opportunity to enter into a contract to create a short video film about one of the selected Breakthrough Prize Laureates, along with a $25,000 budget to produce their short film (subject to the Rules and Conditions).
